ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 01: Delhi/Nalagarh (5 hrs. drive)

Drive to Nalagarh. Check into the Heritage Nalagarh Palace Resort, managed by the extremely hospitable royal family. Overnight Nalagarh.


Day 02: Nalagarh/Kotgarh (4 hrs. drive)

Katgarh hill station around Shimla, Kotgarh famous for apples. As you drive into Kotgarh through a sea of apple trees you'll be struck by its sheer beauty. This is the spawning ground of the apple revolution in Himachal. Every year several lakh cases of apple leave Kotgarh for different parts of the country. This accounts for the unbroken line of trucks that ply these roads during harvest time. In Kotgarh is the famous Stokes Farm. The man who started it all was an American called Samuel Evans Stokes. He made his home a top Barobag Hill and called it Harmony Hall. Some 1,800m below flows the Sutlej. The Apple that started it all. And it has nothing to do with Adam and Eve! Try Samuel Evans Stokes instead. Stokes landed in India in 1904 at the age of 22. He came with the intention of helping the poor people of the hill regions. In trying to convert people to Christianity he himself became a Hindu! He studied Hindu scriptures religiously and then decided to live as a sadhu (hermit) in a cave near the village of Kotgarh.


Day 03: Kothgarh/Sarahan (5-6 hrs. drive)

After breakfast drive to Saharan situated at 2570 mts. enroute the beautiful villages of Fagu, Theog, Matiana, Narkanda and Rampur. En route we will have many comfort breaks and will visit the Apple orchards, Hattu peak (10,000 ft) at Narkanda, from where you can have a spectacular view of the mighty Central Himalayas. We will stop for lunch on the way to Rampur and reach Sarahan by evening and check in your hotel. Sarahan, the tiny village offers the splendid views of Shrikhanda Mahadev Peak (5,155 metres). The major attraction in Sarahan is centuries-old Hindu temple of Bhimakali. Steeped in legend, the temple complex is a resplendent example of hill architecture. Sarahan is also the gateway to Kinnaur valley.


Day 04: Sarahan/Sangla (2-3 hrs. drive)

After breakfast at your hotel, we will visit the famous temple of Bhimakali at Sarahan. This is the same temple in which human sacrifices were made about two centuries ago. After visiting the temple we will continue driving to Sangla where you will check in at your guest house or luxury tented accommodation. After lunch you will be taken on a walk through Kamru and Sangla villages and we will visit the beautifully carved old temples and Buddhist monasteries. You will have plenty of opportunity to speak to the local people in these valleys, and our guide will be happy to interpret. The valley is also known as the Baspa Sangla valley, after river Baspa which flows through the valley and it is the part of Kinnaur valley. Overnight in guest house / hotel/ luxury tented accommodation in Sangla.


Day 05: Excursion to Chitkul

This morning after breakfast we will be driving you to Chitkul (1 hrs.) which is the last village on Indian side on the Indo–Tibetan border. The village of Chitkul is like something from a fairy tale, and you will have a chance to walk slowly around it. The landscapes are stunning, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy them and talk to the local people. We will return to Sangla for lunch and the rest of the day is free or if you like you can walk to another of the nearby villages with your guide. We will have this second night at the same guest house/ hotel / luxury tented accommodation at Sangla.


Day 06: Sangla/Tabo (4 hrs. drive)

Early morning drive to Tabo (3050m), along the cascading Sutlej river and then from Khab along Spiti rivers and continue driving through dramatic landscape, to Tabo. If time permits en route visit Nako temple and the small lake. Arrive Tabo and relax. Overnight in Hotel.


Day 07: Tabo/Kaza (1 hr. drive)

Morning visit Tabo monastery, which is oldest monastery in the whole Himalayas. Later travel to Kaza en route visiting Dhankar village, monastery and fort. Here we will have a cup of tea or lunch with a local family. Later on we continue our drive to Kaza where you will check in at your hotel / guest house. The evening is free to explore in the Kaza market with your guide.


Day 08: Kaza

After breakfast we will be driven to the village of Lagnza. Here there is an opportunity to walk around the village with your guide. You may wish to visit the monastery at the top of the village and on the way look out for fossils. Here you can also see the yak working in the fields or yak grazing in the pastures. We will also visit Hikkim and Comic village – the world's highest village on road. Later on we return back to the main road and continue for a tour of Kee Monastery and the village of Kibber. Later by lunch time, we will reach Kibber Once Kibber (at 4,200 metres) was considered the world's highest village. After lunch in a local restaurant at Kibber / kee monastery, where you will be offered a choice of delicious Tibetan dishes, there is also the option to walk to the nearby mountains where there are big herds of Himalayan blue sheep and snow ibex gather in the evening. In the evening we will return to Kaza for a second night at the hotel.


Day 09: Kaza/Keylong (4-5 hrs. drive)

In the morning driving you to Keylong via Kunzum Pass (4558 m/14,950ft) which provides beautiful views of CB ranges and Glaciers. We will visit the temple on the pass where travellers say prayers before heading down the pass. We will visit Chandar Taal Lake if the road is open and see the lake, also known as the lake of the moon. Enroute visit several villages of Spiti and Lahaul valley. Lunch on the way at Batal. We will reach Keylong by evening. Overnight at hotel.


Day 10: Keylong/Sarchu (2 hrs. drive)

After breakfast we will be driving you to Sarchu over Baralacha Pass (4800 m). On arrival check in at camp at Sarchu. Evening free to walk around in Sarchu. It is the last border point between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, where local agents put up a tented colony for the convenience of the tourists during summer season. Overnight in tent.


Day 11: Sarchu/Leh (7-8 hrs. drive)

After breakfast at your camp we will be driving you to Leh, which gives you a feeling of being in the high Tibetan Plateau. One climbs a series of loops consisting of 32 hairpin bends on the way up from Sarchu and come out in Pang valley. This region also has rare wild life like the Tibetan wild Ass, wolf, and the elusive Snow Leopard, the black-necked Crane and Tibetan Snow Cock. The highest of the Tibetan Plateau at 4200 Mts. Continue driving Tanglang La (5280 Mts.) the second highest Motorable pass in the world that commands breath taking views of the Zanskar range. We will be reaching Leh by late evening. Overnight at hotel in Leh.


Day 12: Leh (Leh local sightseeing exploring the famous monasteries of leh)

After breakfast we will be driving you for a full day sightseeing tour around Leh to Hemis monastery, Thikshe monastery, Shey Palace. These monasteries are a research and cultural centre for Buddhism .


Day 13: Leh local sightseeing to Alchi and Phayang monasteries

After breakfast leave for a sightseeing tour to Alchi & Phyang village. The Alchi village is famous for the existence of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Alchi Monastery (a national heritage) mainly known for its magnificent, and well-preserved 11th or 12th century wall paintings. Later on after lunch on our way to Leh we will visit Phyan village and monastery. Forth night in the same hotel/guest house at leh.


Day 14: Leh/Khardungla/Leh

In the morning drive for the Khardung – La Pass. This is the ultimate challenge of the trip. It is the highest motorable road in the world taking you to 5,600 metres. The view from the top is spectacular, stretching from the Indus valley in the South over the endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range to the giants of the Sesser Massif in the North. After half day of sightseeing in the afternoon we return back to Leh. Evening free to explore in the Leh market. Fifth night in the same hotel / guest house in Leh.


Day 15: Leh/Delhi (by flight)

After breakfast, in the morning we will assist you to Leh airport to board the flight to Delhi.
